On Thursday, April 19th, the Yale Center for Business and the Environment will be holding two special events at the New Haven Lawn Club beginning at 8:00 a.m. and concluding at 4:45 p.m.

An iPad will be raffled out at each of these two events for those in attendance!!!

In the afternoon, join Andy Sabin and the Bulldogs' Den as they judge the three finalists of the Sabin Sustainable Venture Prize.  One lucky venture will win a $25,000 prize and the coveted Sabin Prize. (Lunch from 11:45 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. and the competition from 12:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.)

Weyerhaeuser Memorial Fund, nearly $250,000 was awarded to student and faculty research projects on policy drivers for renewable energy, entrepreneurship and water, environmental markets, and sustainable supply chains.

Project Phoenix: Corporate Social Responsibility at the Base of the Pyramid
Join Michael Maggio, Vice President of Global Engineering with Johnson & Johnson, in a conversation about “Project Phoenix”. For the past several years, Johnson & Johnson has created, developed, and implemented a pilot program “Project Phoenix” aimed at helping to formalize scavenger cooperatives in Brazil. Cooperatives are formed by Catadores, who collect and process waste material for recycling, and lived once in the landfills and were part of the informal economy. Project Phoenix has been helping to improve and maintain fair labor and safe working conditions for Catadores, as well as creating administrative and financial management systems for the cooperatives to ensure sustainability over the long term.

The Southeast Community Retrofit Ramp-Up Consortium is a partnership established to create or expand building energy efficiency improvement programs in 13 communities across 8 states and territory. The Consortium is led by the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA) which is the primary recipient of a $20M BetterBuildings grant from the US Department of Energy to improve 10,000 buildings units by June 2013.  SEEA is uniquely employing a pay-for-performance approach to allocations to sub-recipients, and supporting customized programs designed to reflect local communities in an effort to identify and develop models best suited for the region.Please join us for a conversation with Tamara Jones, Director of the SEEA who will provide an overview of the program designs and early lessons from the 13 participating communities.
