What brought you to Yale?
Yale offers the opportunity to do an independent study and is committed to educating leaders on the value of sustainability. These features were intriguing but it was the people that truly brought me to Yale.
How have you impacted sustainable practices in your career?
I link the value of sustainability with the bottom line as the first step. For example, by adjusting territories, sales people can travel less between clients. This allows for more client meetings per week which in turn ties to an increase in sales. The company benefits from more revenue, the sales people benefit from higher commissions, and the environment benefits from less carbon emissions.
What challenges do you see for sustainability in your industry?
The real estate industry would be impacted if climate change results in reshaping the boundaries between land and water. That said, the industry has not taken a stance overall on climate change. The biggest challenge will be to acknowledge that the impact of not embracing sustainability will be real property.
