Protecting Forests and Lands through Environmental Markets and Finance: A View from The Nature Conservancy

Mark Tercek, president and CEO of The Nature Conservancy will discuss how environmental markets and finance can be used as tools to accelerate the protection of ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people.
Formerly a partner and managing director at Goldman Sachs, Mark was head of the Center for Environmental Markets and the Environmental Strategy Group. As an environmental advocate, Mr. Tercek is engaged with various environmental organizations including the Wildlife Conservation Society's Chilean Advisory Council and the Steering Group of the Prince's Rainforest Project. He has also served as a faculty member in the New York Times Institute on the Environment - a seminar intended to inform editors and journalists on major environmental issues.

The Nature Conservancy is the leading global conservation organization. Since its founding in 1951, TNC has protected more than 119 million acres of land, 5,000 miles of rivers, and operate more than 100 marine conservation projects throughout the world. They have over 1 million members and work in all 50 states and more than 30 countries protecting habitats from grasslands to coral reefs. TNC works on issues related to climate change, fire, fresh water, forests, invasive species, and marine ecosystems aided by over 700 staff scientists.

Mark Tercek will focus his remarks on how markets and finance can advance solutions to climate change through the protection of forests and lands.
